Indian Institute of Management Amritsar successfully held the inauguration ceremony of the PGP04 batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) on 15 July 2018 on its transit campus. Mr. Neeladree Nandy, Vice President, Business Development Petrochemical- Reliance Industries Limited graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest on this occasion. He has a phenomenal industry experience of 16 years and specialises in diverse domains like strategy & planning, M&A, divesture, valuation, financial modelling and capital budgeting.
The Inauguration program began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by Chief Guest Mr. Neeladree Nandy, Vice President, Business Development Petrochemical- Reliance Industries Limited, Nodal Professor, Prof. C. Raju, PGP Chairperson, Prof. M Geetha, Placement Chairperson, Prof. Arun Kaushik, Student Affairs Chairperson, Prof. Mahima Gupta and students of PGP-03 and 04 batches. Thereafter, Chairperson-PGP welcomed the PGP04 batch and congratulated them on the beginning of their two-year long journey.
Professor Raju later took over the dais to address the bright young minds and congratulated them on getting through to IIM Amritsar. Inspiring the future leaders at IIM Amritsar, Prof. Raju said that IIM is a place where we do not just study but also learn because of the unique pedagogy that enables an individual to learn irrespective of their pace of learning and style. He also urged on the new batch that they should make their own perception of IIM and its culture and not be influenced by preconceived notions they may have had so far.
Mr. Sanjay Gupta, the Chairperson-Board of Governors of IIM Amritsar, sent his heartiest congratulations and best wishes for the new batch. Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIMK and the Mentor-Director-IIM Amritsar also sent his best wishes for the new batch. Sharing the congratulatory message from the Mentor-Director, Prof. C Raju conveyed to the new batch that the Mentor Director was unwell and therefore couldn’t be present in the ceremony.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Mr. Neeladree Nandy, emphasized on ‘curiosity’ the natural instinct of a human being which serves as a driver for gaining knowledge. Sharing the popular stories of Newton watching an apple fall and Columbus going on a voyage in search of a new land, he called upon the students to never let their thirst of learning die and to keep on asking questions in order to make most of the opportunity of studying at IIM Amritsar. Mr. Nandy also shared his personal experiences from his student life at IIM Kozhikode as a part of its fifth batch. He recollected his days on the transit campus of IIM Kozhikode 17 years before and how the institute had emerged as leading B-school in the country since then. Closing his speech, he wished IIM Amritsar would also emerge as a leading B-school in the country being part of a legendary city which literally translates as ‘the pond of elixir.’
The inauguration event also saw a great collaboration among students from both the batches as the students representatives from both batches addressed the audience. Mr. Tarun Budhwani, Student of PGP03 motivated his juniors and asked them to try different things and strive to transform themselves without the fear of failure because even if they fall on their face, they will still be moving forward. Mohit Chaubey, a student from the new batch then made the maiden speech from PGP04 and urged his batch mates to utilize together the available resources to the maximum and push hard towards personal growth. The fourth batch of IIM Amritsar has a diverse pool of students with a decent mix of engineering and non-engineering backgrounds with some of the graduates from NITs and IITs. The session was concluded with the National Anthem.
